Born in summer 2014 with a production of the opera āLāamico Fritzā by the composer Pietro Mascagni,Ā Ā āGli Amici di Fritzā Association has so far staged a number of operatic masterpieces from the Italian repertoire:
āLāAmico Fritzā (āMy Friend Fritzā)
āLa Cenerentolaā (āCinderellaā)
āIl Barbiere di Sivigliaā (āThe Barber of Sevilleā)
āLāitaliana in Algeriā (āThe Italian Girl in Algiersā)
āLa Serva Padronaā (āThe Servant turned Mistressā)
These productions have had great success with their audiences, and professional critics confirm the high quality of theĀ performers.
All the productions, in fact, make a great impact and are lively and suited to all kinds of audience: from the enthusiasts who regularly go to the great opera houses, to the novices attending an opera for the first time: everyone is involved and delighted.
The popularity of the works chosen for the association’s repertoire and the comic energy of the performers have become the mark of this company: while giving prominence to the vocal aspect of bel canto, their aim is to give new life to the famous āCarro di Tespiā: a theatre company travelling all over Italy in lengthy tours, they have reached even the most out-of-the-way places which normally have no experience of important theatrical productions, with āpocket-sizeā productions: a few trunks crammed with bits and pieces, costumes and basic sets, simple and effective, which can be installed and struck in a matter of hours.
This is a formula in keeping with the tradition of melodrama.
The Association is composed of Italian and International artists of great individual talent and rare mutual collaboration, giving rise to a captivating Ensemble of high artistic quality from every point of view.
The artists who work with the Association, all of the highest level of professionalism, vary according to the opera performed.
Until recently, the performances were accompanied at the piano by the concert pianist Fabio Silvestro, musical director, and Ā enriched by the Chorus of āGli amici di Fritzā
The Director is now Maestro Luigi Canestro
